The "GIMMIES" are at my house!

Berenstain Bears books have always been a favorite at our house! The kids and I read them alot when they were little. One of my favorite books is the book about the Gimmes. If you have not read it with the kiddos, go out and get it. Its all about the kids in the book wanting everything and sometimes throwing fits to get it.

Well to make a long story short....its the Christmas season and my kids want everything! Especially the girl. My son only wants an Ipod, a NICE bike, and a coat. Can you say expensive!!
My daughter has a much, much, longer list with an electric guitar being on the very top of that list. If you look in there rooms there is not room for much more of anything! Don't think I'm a scrooge, my children will have gifts under the tree from us. :)

So I have been trying to think of ways to help my kids get over the gimmes and concentrate on the giving side of Christmas. So my fellow bloggers, I'm looking to you for some advice on inexpensive ways that I can teach the kids to "give" this holiday season. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

Besides, I cant be the only one out there with this issue.......right??? :)

  1. The gimmies are a tough one! It's not a big issue with my daughter and I - she is aware of the budget, perhaps more so than a 9 yo should be - but my niece makes me a little crazy.

I don't know of any way other than a) sticking to your guns / budget and b) requiring service work (caroling for the food bank, donation of toys or purchasing gifts for the toy drives, serving food at a shelter) / seasonally appropriate gestures of kindness (thank you cards and christmas cards)
