I have always wanted to learn to knit. I know that sounds funny. It looks so relaxing. I read blogs about knitting and think "Hey, I want to try that." I have asked alot of friends and family and no one knows how. I'm the kind of learner that needs to see whatever you are teaching me 1st hand. Directions on paper are not a friend of mine.
So I ventured out to Joann's last night and ended up with this round green loom from Provocraft. The outside of the package said I could make hats, scarves, and more. The only instructions are for a hat. I was kinda disappointed, I really really wanted to make a scarf. So this is the start of a hat. Don't ask me how that is going to be a hat. Good news is...my daughter said she would love to wear it! :) She was happy that I was not sitting in a rocking chair with 2 knitting needles looking like "an old granny". Hahahaha!
So if you have any tips on making scarves, socks, or anything else easy....PLEASE let me know. :)
I just want to make something fun!
well I don't know anything about knitting but crocheting is soooo easy to learn. My mom had taught me when I was little but I never made anything and a month or so ago I picked up an instruction book at Joanns. It was basically a book for teaching kids so it was nice and easy! xoxo
ReplyDeletei totally want to see the finished product when you're done. i tried to teach myself to knit a few years ago and it didnt go well. ive thought about picking it up again, but i just dont know...keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteIf you were near by I'd love to teach you to knit! A great place to go and get hands on help is a yarn shop. Someone there is always willing to help (even customers!). If not, knitting pretty or kids knitting are great books to learn from. If you need any 'virtual' help, I'd be more than happy!
ReplyDeleteit will be a hat, i promise :) my daughter has a loom and she loves it. i wish you were closer, i'd teach you to knit scarves... with needles!

It is easy! super easy in one of those. I prefer two needles, but one of those looms can help you make hats and scarves, and shawls...
ReplyDeletefor a scarf, instead of going round and round, once you get to the first post threaded, RETURN the same way BEFORE you thread the first post again! you'll be threading yarn doubly on the posts, and if you want it extra thick, when you get to the beggining, turn back and thread it again. You'll sort of be knitting the same as in a hat, but the ends won't be attatched, so as you progress, you'll se you get a length of non tubular knit with a right and a wrong side. Hope this helps!
You'll find everything you need to know about loom-knitting from Isela.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck and Have Fun!
