Concert & Recital time

The majority of the day I home school Kalen. He started taking 2 classes in January at a local middle school to get him used to the classroom setting again. I wanted him to take a "core" class & an elective. The only elective available was Vocal Music. Kalen was not happy about that, but was excited to be back in the classroom.

In January when he started the teacher told them that there would be a concert that would effect 50% of their grade. That is what they have been working on since then, along with other things. At first he thought the class was boring. Eventually I found him looking songs up on You Tube and humming ALOT when he thought I was not listening. :)

The class picked out the colors black, red, & white to wear the night of the concert. This is what Kalen picked out to wear. It was his 1st time EVER wearing a tie. He is currently in the 8th grade and will be 14 in August.
This picture reminds me of a senior picture. This picture is PROOF that your kids grow way to fast! I am so proud of Kalen for taking this class and doing an excellent job!

Korby has been interested in instruments ever since I can remember! Poor girl has 2 parents who are absolutely clueless when it comes to instruments! In January I found a home school family who's children were offering lessons at a great rate. Korby started playing the drums, this has been her favorite instrument of all time.

Josh, her teacher, is 16 yrs old and has played the drums for awhile. He has done an EXCELLENT job teaching Korby. Kiley took this picture during the recital yesterday. This was the 1st musical recital anyone in our house has ever been to. It was so exciting to see her get up in front of all those people and play the drums. The great part is that it actually sounds like something! :)

Korby practiced 75 days from Jan-April and got a 75 day club medal. She is so proud of this & so are we. We have to drive about 25 mins from our house once a week for a 30 minute lesson.

Last week I asked Korby on the way there if she would do me a favor. Some day when you are rocking out playing the drums in a band, will you please give a shout out to your mom. You can say "I would like to give a shout out to my mom, Kashoan, who took me to drum lessons every week and helped me remember to practice. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be here today. So lets all give a Woo Hoo to my mom!" Korby's response was "Mom, your such a dork."
