Happy May Day 2009

Happy May Day Everyone! Growing up, May Day was a big deal in our neighborhood. Back then there was a TON of kids that lived on my block and everyone exchanged May baskets. We would ring the doorbell and there would always be someone waiting on the other side of the door to chase you and maybe even try to give you a kiss. If you made it to your house before the person chasing you, then you were "safe". I can remember one time the neighbor lady chased my younger brother to our house and ran after him into the house. He hid under the bed quietly. I don't remember if she ever found him. I just remember him being mortified that this women did not follow the rules about being "safe".

This was a tradition I was excited to pass on to our children. My sister does not have kids, so every year she buys a bunch of fun goodies, for the kids to make into baskets to pass out to friends. This year Kalen decided he was to old, so it was just Korby. We live on a busy street with no other kids, so we decided to drive around and pass them out.

Korby loved the fact that she could "ding dong ditch" people. She would run up to the door, ring the door bell, and run...of course leaving the goodies behind for friends. By the time they came to the door she would be in the car and would yell out "Happy May Day" as we drove off. Then she would check her list to see who was next. She said she kind of felt like Santa Claus! hahaha......kids We had beautiful weather today and enjoyed once again, passing this fun tradition on to the kids.
Hope you all had a Happy May Day!!
